There’s good reason why Companies are promoting diversity more than ever and recognising the benefits of having a diverse workforce. To champion diversity, we first need to understand the value it brings to an organisation.
So, what are the benefits?
Increased innovation
Innovation arises from different experiences and points of view. Imagine a workplace where everyone was the same – it wouldn’t make for a very creative environment. Diversity brings people with different experiences and viewpoints together, which stimulates a community of innovation, creativity and new ideas.
Boosted talent
When you promote diversity, people want to work for you. Having a diverse workforce also allows employers to tap into a wide range of skillsets brought by employees from different backgrounds, with different life experiences and perspectives.
Increased sales and enhanced customer service
Having a diverse workforce allows a stronger relationship to form between employers and their market, and clients are more likely to be satisfied with the service they have received if they feel connected to employees. Having diversity within the workforce also helps Companies better understand their market and new markets which may be explored.
There are many other advantages of diversity in the workplace and this article has just outlined a few to give food for thought. The important thing to remember is that we all have the opportunity to shape diversity within our workplace, starting with promoting an environment which encourages every employee to share ideas and thoughts.
